A 7x4.5", three(3) page letter, hinged to a mount, signed by Lewis, in good condition creased down the centre of the letter, showing slight age toning, not effecting the text of the letter, dated 4 September 1827. Letter to Thomas Granville explaining that he had expected to be writing to announce his appointment as secretary of the board of control. The letter reads in part: " I was however surprised this morning my Lord Goderich proposing to name me to the vacant office of Secretary of the treasury to which I was indeed forthwith appointed".
